Venice gives up the most points in the Angelo Gasca era in blowout loss to Chami

Venice knew it would be a tough test on Thursday against defending state champion Chaminade, but for part of the first quarter it looked like the Gondoliers could pull off the surprising upset.

After a poor Chaminade snap on a punt led to a safety for the Gondoliers, Venice sophomore quarterback Robbie Blosser connected with a wide open Dejon Jones for a 55-yard touchdown on their next possession to take a 9-7 lead.

That would be one of the few highlights for Venice on the night. Chaminade running back Okalani Taufahema-Langi scored four touchdowns, and Blosser threw four interceptions as the Gondoliers gave up the most points under head coach Angelo Gasca in a 70-23 loss on Thursday at Watson Field.

The defeat left Gasca with very few words after the game.

“We were in it for a minute then things fell apart. Made a couple of bad decisions and it turned the game around,” Gasca said.

For Blossor, a transfer from Oaks Christian, to make his first start against a state champions was a trial by fire and his stat line showed it.
