Canaletto fans still have time to learn more about the 18th century artist, his competitors and Venice this week when J. Russell Sale and Eric Denker give gallery talks on Tuesday and Wednesday beginning at noon at the National Gallery's information desk in the East Building.
The exhibition, complete with a period gondola, includes 55 works gathered from around the world for the only Canaletto show in the U.S. Appropriately, his renderings of Venice and its environs are housed on the mezzanine level just a few steps from another blockbuster show, Paul Gauguin: Maker of Myth which ends June 5.
Both exhibitions are stunning collections and well worth a visit, despite the certainty of last-minute crowds. Don’t be deterred!
