The “Thanksgiving Day Massacre”, an event previously scheduled to happen today, November 21, at the Dennis “Polar Bear” Agnew Memorial Skatepark, in Venice Beach, has been cancelled.
According to an e-mail sent on 11/19 by Geri Lewis, Executive Director of the Venice Surf and Skateboard Association (VSA), the “[City of L.A. Dept. of] Recreation and Parks dropped the ball and did not have permit issued, so we have a new date for the contest, December 12, 2009.”
However, the following day, a posting on VSA’s blog states the event has been postponed to December 19.

Remember "that kid" that astonished everyone during the skate park opening day sessions?
His name is Shane Borland, seen here cruising over a hip in the snake run.

At any rate, one of the more significant developments at the park is that, according to this posting, the LAPD will, starting December 1, begin to enforce the helmet law – or, more precisely, the Section 115800 of the California Health and Safety Code that mandates helmet, knee- and elbow-pads.
AB 874, an amendment by Lori Saldaña (D-San Diego) that removes the knee- and elbow-pad requisites, but keeps the helmet requirement, passed the Assembly vote unanimously and moved to the Senate back in May (more info here).

Where/how do most head injuries occur in US/CA? In cars of course! Why then no helmet laws for drivers who travel 70-100mph while skaters travel under 20 mph? Hundreds/thousands are killed/injured daily from head injuries in cars while deaths in skateparks are extremely rare and injuries generally rare/mild. Of course the "lawmakers" are overwhelmingly old/drivers who are unaffected by their nazi laws.
I'll wear a helmet while skating as soon as drivers are forced to wear them while driving. I'll probably be waiting a long time... but then again I currently live in Germany where their are no nazi helmet laws, how is that for irony!
i saw the pigs (law enforcement officers) there today. was wondering what they, the pigs, were doing there. guess they were surverying the scene for the impending law enforcement (pig activity)
