Earlier today the Venezuelan government announced the death of President Hugo Chavez.
Born Hugo Rafael Chávez Frías into a working class family on July 28, 1954, Chavez became President of Venezuela from 1999 until his death on March 5, 2013.
President Chavez was world known as one of the most controversial and leftist revolutionary presidents in Venezuelan history.
According to Foreign Minister Elias Jaua during an interview on Venezuelan TV, Vice President Nicolas Maduro will assume the presidency in the interim and elections will be held in 30 days.
Chavez was in power for 14 years and the country has become more deeply divided during his tenure due to his unusual, fierce style.
Surprisingly the United States purchases most of its oil from Venezuela, the country’s primary source of wealth, despite Chavez' continuous negativity towards the US and obvious monetary dependency on the US for purchasing its oil.
Chavez was 58 years old.
What do you think? Will Chavez’ death change relations between the US and Venezuela?
