If you’re going to be a jerk, be the best you can be!
It’s OK to be a “jerk” here.
It’s actually encouraged.
…As long as you’re being a soda jerk.
Introducing Vena’s Fizz House – where the soda jerks are outstanding craftspeople.
Watching them mix and match various ingredients is nearly as much fun as drinking the delicious variety of beverages they concoct.
Vena’s Fizz House is the finest...bar? Store? Soda fountain? It’s all three. And it does a sterling job at being as fun & funky as it is unique and educating.
This is the type of place one goes to feel a little nostalgic and simultaneously experience up-to-date, modern styles of making natural beverages you can drink in or take-away.
It’s a place where you’re able to purchase the tools of the trade to make your own magical elixirs.
Vena’s inspires one to get creative-from the multitude of books and literature they sell, to watching and chatting with the knowledgeable staff…You’ll enjoy the entire process as they make your drinks right there in front of you. The soda jerks cut fresh fruit daily, prepare their own garnishes, and squeeze their own fresh juices. Healthy drinks are served here...and rest assured that only the finest and freshest ingredients are used in their diverse drinkable delights. All made to order!
So many drinks from which to choose: Old Fashioned Rickys, coffee fizzes, cream sodas and root beers are available as well as smoothies, juices and specialty sodas (with no added sugar.)
There’s nothing sweet about today’s uncertain economic climate.
That’s why it was a ballsy move to open such a different type of retail establishment cum Old Fashioned Soda shop in Maine.
Be that as it may, entrepreneurs Steve and Johanna Corman took proverbial caution, and proverbially hurled it to the wind….and Vena’s Fizz House is what happened.
From Sodas to sundries, this place sells it.
Now…Is it a soda shop? A bar? A retail store for the Mixologist? A thirst quenching answer to the Temperance Movement?
Ironically, The Temperance movement in Maine started with Johanna’s Great Grandma, who was fond of beating down and berating drinkers of alcohol (and pretty much anyone else who wanted to have fun) back-in-the-day. Her Grandma was a tough old gal.
Thankfully, grumpy grandma and her buzz-killing cohorts were thwarted by those who appreciated consuming various libations – whether alcoholic beverages or not - in all their glory.
Subsequently, bold folk like the Cormans’s created places like The Fizz House to temper the temperance.
Speaking of which, Johanna’s great grandmother Vena (after whom the Fizz House is named) would roll over in her grave if she saw what was being sold in her great granddaughter’s shop today.
Accoutrements of every shape, size, and variation are on sale to help you become your very own bartender/Mixologist/drink creator. You can purchase natural and organic mixers, fruit and herb syrups, bitters, bar tools, glassware, and written materials and recipes.
Vena’s is a great place for the health conscience smoothie lover, tea-totalor or seasoned connoisseur of cordials and other mixed alcoholic (and non-alcoholic) creations.
There is no minimum age restriction here…Kids can purchase kits and books to learn about, and create healthy juices, and other natural drinks for themselves, where they can experiment with flavors and mixtures.
Regardless if one supports teetotalism (a philosophy with which I am not familiar) or indulges in the consumption of alcoholic beverages among one’s contemporaries…Vena’s Fizz House is good for what ails ya.
I had no idea how much fun one can have creating homemade sodas, slushies, various seltzers and other consumable liquids.
The variety of people I saw stroll in to sip and slurp was quite diverse, too.
Kids, tweens, teens, adults, and everyone in-between came in and out of this place all day.
And all left with looks of satisfaction and smiles.
Winter is nearly upon us, and in addition to the regular fare, you can expect Hot cider, Hot chocolate, Hot Toddies (no alcohol) and other beverages that will warm your cockles when the snows of winter blanket the bricks of The Old Port.
If you want something different, try the Key Lime Pie “Specialty Soda”…. It tastes like a freaking Key Lime pie! But you drink it!
What a refreshing business Vena’s Fizz House is! So much choice. So many possibilities.
A great place to discover the latest techniques to make modern drinks in an old fashioned way.
