I don't know exactly what it is about pumpkins that attract me so much. I love their curved lines, plump shapes and their rich colors - the traditional deep oranges as well as the unusual hues of heirloom varieties. Pumpkins also have a magical element to them. It wasn't an apple that turned into a carriage or a turnip that keeps Linus up all night every Halloween! I love lining my porch with the real things and painting, crafting, building artful ones.
These velvet pumpkins from The Farmer's Only Daughter are so beautifully lush I want to make a big pile of them for the center of my dining table. Which shouldn't be a problem, because they are simple to create. The easy tutorial illustrated wtih photos is here.
Other pumpkin-y projects you might enjoy this autumn include a pumpkin fashioned from strips of decorative paper, pint-sized scarecrows made with mini pumpkins and pumpkins stenciled to welcome guests to your home.
