Velveeta shortage a cheesy marketing ploy? Fox's Martha MacCallum weighs in

Is the Velveeta shortage warning a marketing ploy by the makers of Velveeta? On Wednesday Jan. 8, Fox News anchor Martha MacCallum suggests that this may be the case. You may be looking at a marketing ploy to get you to stock up on the product.

According to MSN on Jan. 7, the folks at Kraft put a statement out reporting that in the next few weeks “It is possible consumers in any part of the country may not be able to find Velveeta products on store shelves.”

Considering this is just in time for Super Bowl food preparation, Martha may have something here. Velveeta is a staple used in a popular nacho dip that is made in households and bars across the country and this is a traditional dish served at Super Bowl parties. With the warning of a shortage looming, folks might start stocking up on the cheese that melts like velvet.

Kraft reports that the shortage is due to nothing more than supply in demand. Over these last very cold weeks, Kraft said they have seen the sales of Velveeta rise. While they are trying to keep up with the demand, they may temporarily fall short.

The statement from Kraft also said that the possible shortage is expected to be only short-term. After this statement, how many folks put Velveeta on their shopping lists? Probably more than usual!
