Coloradoans: Tomorrow, October 1st is World Vegetarian Day, kicking off Vegetarian Month (October). This is to many just one more day of the same diet in the life of a vegetarian or vegan. However, this day should be used for non-vegetarians and vegetarians alike to go a bit further and go vegan. It is not difficult to go one day without any animal products and if you can do it for one day, try two days. If you can do it for two days, try three. Try the whole month of October. If you need an excuse to make a change, or want simply to try a new way of life, this is it. Going vegan has the potential to help you feel lighter and free of guilt. No regrets here.
October is also "Eat Better, Eat Healthier Month". By eating vegan you will automatically do both as long as you stay away from eating just french fries and peanut-butter and jelly sandwiches.
Strangely enough, October is also pork month, seafood month, cookie month and dessert Month. Let's make it our goal to do away with the first two holidays on this list, and change the latter two to "vegan cookie" and "vegan dessert" month.
Celebrate tomorrow with some great recipes from any of about five thousand vegan food blogs that exist out there in cyber-land. Have your friends over for a vegan drinks night and rejoice in your meat-free life! Have pride and let everyone know you're vegan. There is no better day to do so than on World Vegetarian Day.
Visit the World Vegetarian Day website and download lots of outreach materials and information.
