Readers may recall this author's attempt at making won ton appetizers. Unwilling to do that again anytime soon but nonetheless having a chronic desire for won ton soup, I decided to cheat and buy gyoza (pot stickers) in the frozen section of Trader Joe's. I picked up some vegetable broth powder from The Spice Rack in the 2nd Street Market; the soup was delicious and took very little time or effort.
Won Ton Soup
- 2-3 green onions, thinly sliced
- 2 fresh mushrooms, sliced
- 8 cups water
- 8 teaspoons vegetable broth powder
- 1 package Trader Joe vegetable gyoza
- 1 dash soy sauce, or to taste
- 1 dash sesame oil, to taste
Heat the water to boiling in a large saucepan and whisk in the vegetable broth powder. Return to boiling and drop the Gyoza, one by one, into the broth, and let them cook for 8 to 10 minutes until they float to the surface. Reduce heat to a simmer, and gently stir in the sliced mushrooms. Let the soup simmer 2 - 3 more minutes. Garnish with the remaining green onions and a dash of soy sauce and sesame oil, and serve immediately.
