Summertime is the perfect time for vacations. Life gets busy. The warm weather and sun seem to help slow us down and allow us to appreciate the physical and psychological benefits of relaxation. Getting away from the hassles and monotony of everyday life is a welcomed idea, but for vegetarians planning vacations can be a bit daunting.

Parker vegetarian residences know how difficult their dietary lifestyles can be even from the comfort of your own home. When you go on vacation, you leave behind your kitchen gadgets, the local health food store, your cookbooks, and sometimes your computers, which can be crucial for meal planning and research.

While Parker has plenty of fun summer events and activities, sometimes you just want to explore what other areas have to offer. Vacations can be far more enjoyable if you cater to your dietary needs. Here are a few tips to help with vacation planning.

Booking Hotels
For vegetarians a vacation can turn rancid if there are not any vegetarian friendly food options. The first line of defense is booking a hotel that offers at minimum, a fridge. This allows you to go to a grocery store and pick up some vegetarian friendly snacks and food to keep in your room. Coolers are great, but dealing with melting ice and wet foods are not that much fun. Many hotels offer rooms with mini kitchenettes. If you spend a little extra on your hotel rooms, you can save money buy cooking food as you would at home. Places like The Residence in by Marriot are the perfect stay for a health conscious vegetarian. When you have your location booked, call ahead to find out what local dining options are available. Though the staff may not know much about the vegetarian diet, they will know what is close by.

Know Your Area
Once your locale and hotel are in place, spend some time exploring the local dining options. Happy Cow’s compassionate eating guide offers a large index of regional vegetarian options. Search your location and make sure you know if there are any vegetarian friendly options close by. Seek out health food stores and make sure you know where the nearest grocery stores are. Knowing your area before hand can save a lot of time wasted driving around looking for food options.

Get Creative
Cruises are a fun and all inclusive way to travel. During booking, there are special request options and vegan is on the list. You would be surprised how many travel companies are vegan and vegetarian friendly. VegVoyages not only caters to your dietary needs— they celebrate it. Travel to India, Laos, or Malaysia and explore vegetarian cuisine and local culture.

Regardless of where you choose to go, the key to a successful vegetarian vacation is planning. If you do not have enough time to plan, seek out travel agencies who can do a lot of the legwork for you. Have a fun and safe summer, and remember that your diet is important so give it plenty of thought and be prepared.
