California Fresh restaurant has replaced Fresh Choice at 535 Howe Avenue, Sacramento, and is serving similar foods. They have the same phone number as the former Fresh Choice at that location and are now open. Numerous former customers never realized that Fresh Choice closed in November since the food is similar and 70 percent of the staff is the same.

Anderson's column describes how the concept of the former Fresh Choice now survives in the new restaurant, California Fresh, which now is open for business with similar vegetarian-friendly foods, soups, and salad fixings.
What's vegetarian-friendly is that the similar menu and pricing is still there. The old Fresh Choice slipped into Chapter 7 liquidation in November, 2012 with a debt of more than $5 million. Back then all locations closed and assets went to creditors.
Now, the soup and salad concept lives again under the new name, California Fresh. The eateries are open in Sacramento at the old Howe Avenue site, 535 Howe Avenue as well as similar restaurants under the new California Fresh name opened at sites in Cupertino, San Leandro, Rohnert Park and Sacramento.
The newest California Fresh restaurant to open in Sacramento in addition to the Howe Avenue location will be the Douglas Boulevard location in Roseville, which opens in a week or two, according to Cathie Anderson's column.
Ironically, the Howe Avenue location always has been doing well. After all it's surrounded not only by blocks of senior apartments as well as is located walking distance or a short ride from CSUS. You get a lot of retired college professors eating there as well, and various clubs used to meet at the old Fresh Choice. The location on Howe Avenue has a lot of foot traffic and a parking lot in the back, and it's right in front of the Larkspur Landing hotel and a wide variety of offices, and a few blocks from a major upscale shopping center on Fair Oaks and Howe. So the location is ideal.
In any case, the 535 Howe Avenue location of California Fresh is now open daily from 11:00 a.m. You can call the old Fresh Choice phone number for the new California Fresh restaurant's opening and closing times.
