Vegeta seasoning

No matter the country of origin, seasonings are being used to not only enhance flavors but also to distinguish one cuisine from another. For instance, what would Indian food be with curry or Serbian food without Vegeta? I’m sure everyone is familiar with curry but Vegeta might be quite unknown.

Vegeta is a mixed spice blend. The main ingredients are salt, dehydrated vegetables, and other “secret” spices. The seasoning can be used in every savory dish imaginable. The possibilities are truly endless. However, Vegeta did not start out as we now know it to be. Rather, it was simply comprised of various spices without the addition of vegetables.

Below is the very colorful Vegeta timeline!

1958        Vegeta 40 is created by a team that is headed by professor Zlata Bartl.
1959        Vegeta 40 is marketed in its hometown of Koprivnia, Croatia.
1967        Vegeta 40 is distributed to Hungary and Russia.
1971        Vegeta 40 is now distributed to Austria, Sweden, West Germany, and      Czechoslovakia and even as far as Australia. That same year Vegeta 40 drops the 40 and simply becomes Vegeta.
1974        The immensely popular TV series “Little Secrets of Great Chefs” which aired in former Yugoslavia features Vegeta in every single recipe. The phrase, “…a spoonful of Vegeta” is heard in every household.
1994        Vegeta adds dehydrated vegetables to the mix. Added nutritional value to the product.
2000        A Vegeta factory is opened in Hungary.
2001        Another Vegeta factory is opened, this time in Poland which specialized in soup powders. Also, Vegeta branches out with two new concepts, Vegeta Twist (salad seasoning) and Vegeta powder form to be used in shakers.
2004        Vegeta’s pivotal year as it’s named “Superbrand” by the Polish market.
2005        Vegeta Mediterranean and Vegeta Light are introduced as a response to popular trends. This same year it receives two more “Superbrand” awards from the Hungarian and Russian markets.
2006        Voted “Superbrand” by Slovakian market.
2007        Vegeta is distributed to 40 countries and sold in all 5 continents.
2009    Vegeta celebrates 50 years of success!

Amazingly, Vegeta’s popularity has only grown with time and continues to do so. Vegeta can be found in many ethnic markets some of which are linked on this page.

Prijatno! Enjoy!
