Most anybody loving the sound of Punk, Celtic Punk, a bit of Metal, Alternative, or Rock knows of Double Down Saloon, the best of the best of dive bars in Vegas, located at 4640 Paradise Road, just off the strip, in Las Vegas. Upon entrance of the place, you will find it to be small, cozy, notoriously seedy, with Ramones fans huddled around the bar, rocking out to one of the bands playing that night, which on average, are about three a night on the weekends. Double Down is one of those non-assuming, continuous rage-ers, where great jam sessions occur, and you would not want to change a thing about the place. Anybody who wants to be somebody, and has talent for the aspiring music business plays there, even testy, raw, punk girl bands, which is a rarity.
Bands like the Fremonts. the Nines, and the Vermin play there. "Vermin", you say, "Sounds familar", and it is, for Vermin, is headed up by none other than Dirk Vermin, and Rob Ruckus of "Bad Ink", the blazing popular show about covering bad tattoos on A & E. You probably didn't know that the King of Ink and his side kick were extremely talented muscians with bands. We have followed Ruckus before, when he performed at a charity event called Rapture's Riot, jamming bass to old school Johnny Cash and the like. Ruckus is also the Celebrity Bartender. Ruckus has been behind the bar at Double Down for a number of years, and yes, still being the same old Rob Ruckus, he occasionally gets behind the bar, to stir up the party favors. Tip well!
It's great to see a couple of hard-working, life lovin' regular Joes' get a huge break by having a show on A & E. Gotta love it!
The crowd at Double Down is fun and grunge, and when you go there, you better have in mind some serious partying, their motto is 'Shut up and Drink!'. Leave your suit and tie at the door, and know that light weights end up in the Double Down photo booth, in which case, what happens in Vegas, can be used for blackmail later. Double Down has a variety of their own brand of wipe-out signature drinks, such asThe 'Bacon Martini', at modest prices. Take a cab.
