October 10, 2013 - Las Vegas, Nevada
Boomer's Bar, 3200 Sirius Ave., Las Vegas, kicked off opening night for the first Las Vegas Burlesque Festival, with some quite unique and creative acts. Yes sir, its history in the makin' boys!
Truly a variety show of sorts, hilarious Vaudvillian skits left you rolling in the isles with laughter. Beautiful costumes, feathers and boas everywhere, attendees dressed to the nines in Bettie Page wear, or flowers, flounce skirts, and corsets. There was one gorilla suit melt down to the Jungle Book song 'I Want to be Like You'. The skit had people roaring and going ape, pardon the pun. The naughty Nanna in the wheel chair, stripped off her Depends and her oxygen tube, to don her heels to show she has enough sauce to do it all one more time. Shocking, funny and fabulous!
There were also classic striptease performers, where every look of the eyes, expression of the eyebrows, pout of the lips, swing of the boa, flounce of the skirt, and shudder of the fan, was exotic and flirtatious. Neo-Burlesque, or new style, had musical cuts where it went from commercial music of the 60's, into metal. There was also an amazing contortionist act, boylesque, and the grand finale of a Michael Jackson Tribute, Burlesque style. This show had some truly original, creative, and talented performers.
Performers in last night's show were MC Sugar Shagmore, April Showers, Precarious Lea, Deidre Von Derriere, General Blackery, Kiki Delco, Kitty Cox, Man's Ruin, Matt Finish, May Blush, Mia Sangria, Minouche Von Marabou, Miz Charlamay, Nakita Bitch Project, Paige Turner, Veronica Derriere, with much help from Cha Cha Velour for setting it all up.
Last night was only the beginning of the Las Vegas Burlesque Festival, today, Oct. 11, the will be a Bling Party at Du Barry's Fashions, hosted by Bourbon Rose, from 12pm - 3pm. Tonight, 9 pm at the Plaza Showroom, with a huge line up of Burlesque stars.
