The Las Vegas Ferris wheel, notable for being the tallest Ferris wheel in the world, is one attraction making news this week following its recent completion. Excited tourists waited hours in line for the opportunity to take in the amazing view from the high-reaching gondolas this Monday during its grand opening. The CS Monitor reports this Tuesday, April 1, 2014, that visitors on the massive wheel are saying the ride offers a breathtaking look at the Las Vegas Strip, the distant mountains of Nevada, as well as far-reaching blue skies.
While it may be hitting headlines as the tallest attraction of its kind in the whole world, the Las Vegas Ferris wheel is in fact not the only new opportunity arriving to the gambling center of the U.S. nation. The structure is a major piece in a huge $550 million entertainment, retail, restaurant, and bar development program, being financed by casino leaders like the Flamingo, Harrah’s, Quad hotels, and Caesars Entertainment Corp. in Las Vegas.
The first tourists had the lucky chance to take part in the stunning views from the towering Vegas Ferris wheel this Monday. Visitors noted that the expansive gondolas offered them an amazing look at the state skyline, as well as a shining view of the many Las Vegas lights — both during the day and especially at night. Says Van Kim, an enthusiastic Phoenix employee who waited over six hours in order to be one of the first to ride the High Roller, the overall experience on the Ferris wheel was nothing less than “unanimously awesome.”
"It's probably the best view of the Strip," added Kim, who says that the Strip looked incredible from the high view. “We didn’t feel the wind at all.”
For some statistics, the massive height of the circulating wheel in Las Vegas stands at 550 feet, easily eclipsing that of the 541 foot Singapore Flyer as well as the 443 foot London Eye, both impressive attractions for their sizes as well. The High Roller ride is believed to remain the tallest in the world in terms of Ferris wheels until similar structures are erected in Dubai and New York (construction is already being planned for these attractions).
Are you excited about trying out the 30 minute ride in the near future? If you don’t have a fear of heights and love Las Vegas and beautiful views, then the newly completed Vegas Ferris wheel seems to be something you don’t want to miss.
