A Vegas cab driver thought that a bag someone left behind in his cab was filled with chocolates, but when he opened the package he found 3000 green and crisp $100 bills. This was a find much more expensive than even the finest chocolates Vegas has to offer because according to CBS News on Dec. 25, the bag contained $300,000.
What would you do with an unmarked bag left behind with $300,000 in $100 dollar bills? Most would at least have the thought of keeping it run through their mind. It doesn’t matter what Gerardo Gamboa was thinking because once he discovered what the bag held, he called his dispatch and then turned it into his company. The company in turn got in touch with the police, who searched for the owner.
When Gamboa stopped to pick up a fare in front of the Bellagio Hotel-Casino, the doorman noticed the bag left in the backseat and handed it to the Checker Cab driver. Gamboa didn’t pay too much attention to it at first, but his curiosity did get the better of him so he peeked inside. The jaw-dropping moment was when Gamboa got a gander at all those $100 bills in six neat little bundles.
The police were able to trace the money back to a well-known poker player that they declined to identify. The story ends here for now, as it is not known if this Checker Cab driver got a reward or even a thank-you from the rightful owner of the money.
The unidentified poker player is one lucky gambler today because the chances of someone else returning the money might not have been in their favor. Looks like he or she was on a winning streak even before sitting down at a table that day!
