In New Jersey, a vegan couple flipped out over their bill which didn't include a discount. Although the Litskys brought their own pasta due to strict diet requirements and high cholesterol, they were forced to pay full price for the dinner bill. Police were called over the irate restaurant customers, who eventually paid their tab, according to an April 3 Finance report.
Jack Litsky and his wife both turned 50 last year and made a pact to lose weight, control their blood lipid panel and watch their food intake. Essentially, this meant they would have to develop and stick to a tight diet.
They both reasoned to bring their own pasta along to every restaurant. In that way, they are certain it is made of 100 percent whole wheat. However, in their Feb. 23 trip to Monticello at Red Bank, the vegan couple flipped out over a bill that clearly didn't include their "usual" discount.
Litsky had a $50 coupon from Restaurant.com, but it was not honored during this recent visit. Additionally, his meals were not prepared to their liking and appeared to be smaller in portion size.
To his amazement, the owner said they do not honor custom meals on weekends.
"We've gone to at least 50 or 60 restaurants in the past year-and-a-half and we've never had an issue. They drop it in water and we can use red marinara tomato sauce and we ask for mushrooms and onions and red pepper if they have it," Litsky said.
Apparently, the restaurant gave the man discounts in the past, but the owner clearly said the policy changed.
The vegan customers flipped out at the owner's refusal to honor past expectations of a discount. Next, police were called, who threatened the man with arrest for not paying the bill.
Litsky paid, but filed a complaint with American Express over the dispute. The company has 30 days to respond.
