Venice Beach, CA is known for its hippy lifestyle, it’s organic origins, its eclectic natives and it’s alternative and unconventional food.
The new Venice hot spot on the corner of Rose and 5th is Café Gratitude, where breakfast lunch and dinner time is roaring with cheerful patrons sipping on wine, organic beer, teas, or coffee, and enjoying meals that are not only prepared with 100% vegan ingredients but are also shockingly flavorful and beautifully prepared on the plate.
One of the many contributing factors that make Café Gratitude a fantastic place to dine is that you don’t have to be a member of the flower-child granola-eating hippy dippy club to enjoy this place. If you are simply looking to maintain a healthy lifestyle and don’t mind being a bit adventurous, there are several things on the menu that are suitable for any diet.
The outdoor patio is delightful in it’s décor and the inside is cozy and welcoming. The service is impeccable and the servers are more than willing to answer the many questions a non-vegan or non-raw'er might have about the menu and they do so happily and without rolling a judgy eye.
The menu is versatile and their “Monthly Specials” are fantastic. One “special" in August is The Raw Summer Zucchini Noodle Lasagna (pictured above), which is made with heirloom tomatoes, basil hempseed pesto, olive tapenade, wild arugula, baby spinach, sun-dried tomato marinara, cashew ricotta and almond parmesan.
The zucchini “lasagna” tasted almost identical to regular cold lasagna (raw food can not be heated over the raw-legal limit of 115°F) and the aromatic blends from the various spices made it very hard to eat this dish at a reasonable pace. It was that good. It also didn’t leave you feeling the way that you usually do after real lasagna; heavy and lethargic and, well, fat.
If you are into the raw food, Zen and spiritual world, Café Gratitude also offers events that allows the community to come together and discuss relative topics.
