Looking for something vegetarian to eat near the Los Angeles Convention Center? Fear not. The Yard House has an entire section of their menu featuring a fake meat called Gardein. Plus you can choose from lots of salads and veg appetizers. This chain restaurant has outlets in many states. Inside, the L.A. Yard House was rather cold, dark and loud. But a quieter outdoor seating area was more pleasant. Yard House is located in the L.A. Live hive of restaurants right by the convention center.
Most of the veg dishes are heavy on the dairy. The barbecue chicken salad combines avocado, pasilla, corn, cheddar, jack, tortilla strips, tomato, pinto beans, citrus barbeque sauce, fried onions, cilantro and chipotle ranch dressing with gardein chicken. The penne with chicken features crimini mushrooms, asparagus and sun-dried tomatoes beneath cream sauce and parmesan. Best bet for vegans is the chicken rice bowl, which mixes gardein chicken with bok choy, baby corn, snap peas, carrots, shiitake, celery, peppers and broccoli with your choice of brown or jasmine rice. The Thai chicken noodle salad looks almost vegan, except for the unfortunate choice of egg noodles. Rice noodles would have been better. But Yard House is a stellar choice for vegetarians participating at a convention center event, and one of the better choices for vegans.
