Vaudeville Mews welcomes Boats on January 19

Canadian indie pop band Boats will dock in Des Moines on Saturday, January 19 for a show at the Vaudeville Mews (212 Fourth Street). Openers will include Central Iowa bands H.D. Harmsen, and Lesbian Poetry, and relative unknowns Doctor Dentist. Doors at the Mews will open at 5 p.m., and the music will begin at 5:30 p.m. There will be a $5 cover charge at the door, and the show will be open to all ages.

Boats hails from Winnipeg, Manitoba. The band combines the unique voice of lead singer Mat Klachefsky with catchy pop hooks. Boats 5-piece lineup has toured all over North America and has played festivals like South by Southwest, Pop Montreal, North by Northeast, Sled Island, and Halifax Pop Explosion.

Boats released their first album, Intercontinental Champion, in October of 2007. Cannonballs, Cannonballs, the band's 2010 follow-up was a big success in their home province.
