The hit film “Varsity Blues” is full of youthful camaraderie and High School football that contains nice performances, big laughs, heart and plenty of tough gridiron action.
Among the bunch of redneck rabble rousers in the picture are the late Paul Walker, Ally Landry, and James Van Der Beek.
The movie also has a fine bit of acting by Ron Lester as Billy Bob. Billy Bob is the linebacker for the Coyote football team in the fictional Texas town of West Canaan who is ready to party, and stands fast for his teammates
As the picture unfolds, trials and tribulations are heaped upon the young men via parental pressure, and a domineering coach who cares more about winning than the welfare of the team that is playing for him, Lester’s Billy Bob is a delight to behold. He’s a lunkhead with a big heart, fierce loyalty, and the courage to stand up for what he believes in.
Lester has taken his cinematic alter ego’s passion and courage forward and plunged into a new project he is trying to get off the ground that he says will be faith based. Per the new film’s Facebook page, it will be a family drama and action packed.
Based in the world of NASCAR, “Racing Legacy” is a personal film, in that Lester’s company will be shooting it, and Lester himself wrote the screenplay.
During a recent interview on the Dallas television show “Good Morning Texas,” Lester said he is trying to get Country Music superstar Tim Mcgraw, and acting legend Robert Duvall to play parts in the film. He also stated that he is centering this future projects in Dallas because he believes the area has some fine acting talent, and wants to give local actors a chance.
Shooting for a release this year, the movie’s progression can be followed on the “Racing Legacy” Facebook page by clicking here.
