“The MCA is proud to join with EXPO CHICAGO to present Vernissage, the highlight of Chicago's fall art season,” states MCA Pritzker Director Madeleine Grynsztejn.
Vernissage, the opening-night benefit and preview of EXPO CHICAGO, will take place from 6 to 9 p.m. at the International Exposition of Modern and Contemporary Art, Thursday, September 19, 2013. Guests will have an exclusive first look at art from 125 international galleries participating in the second annual exposition (September 19 – 22) in Navy Pier’s Festival Hall on 600 E. Grand Avenue.
“This benefit allows art enthusiasts to appreciate the exceptional amount of art that Chicago is able to bring together on an international level, and raises awareness for the MCA’s distinctive programming,” adds Grynsztejn.
A French term for art openings, Vernissage, or ‘varnishing day,’ evokes the energy and excitement that surrounds the opening of this unique celebration which includes a reception with food by 11 City Diner, 437, Carnivale, Eli’s Cheesecake, Embeya, Forever Yogurt, Gallery Bar, Gemini Bistro/Rustic House, Hannah’s Bretzel, Harry Caray’s, iNG, Jordan’s Food of Distinction, Kapocha, MK, Moto, Paris Club, Pelago, Skinny Pop, and ZED 451; spirits from City Winery, Effen Vodka and Lagunitas Brewing Company; and coffee from Metropolis Coffee.
“It is a great privilege to be partnering with the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago once again and to present Vernissage as the opening night benefit and kick off of EXPO CHICAGO,” explains President and Director of EXPO CHICAGO Tony Karman. “The MCA shares our vision of making Chicago a premier art destination and we are proud to be working with the MCA on multiple levels including the MCA Pop-Up Store which will be on the floor of the exposition.”
Tickets for Vernissage start at $100 and can be purchased at mcachicago.org/vernissage or by calling 312-397-3868. Proceeds from the event support education, exhibition, and performance programs at the MCA.
