San Diego Representative Juan Vargas (D),this week, called for action on an unemployment extension from a Congress unresponsive to the family needs of San Diego's tens of thousands of unemployed workers without unemployment insurance. He joined congressmembers who asked for a vote on Rep. Sandy Levin's (D) bill that would extend federal unemployment benefits to the end of the year.

“Congress can no longer wait to act on unemployment insurance," Vargas said Wednesday. “Congress must restore this vital economic lifeline that helps hard working people support their families and pay their bills while they look for work.”

The congressmembers signed a discharge petition to force a vote on the Emergency Unemployment Compensation Extension Act.
