Vanessa Hudgens, whose claim to fame was playing Gabriella Montez in the Walt Disney Company’s High School Musical franchise, has a lot for which to be thankful.
The first High School Musical movie came out in 2006, and upon its release on January 20, 2006, it became the most successful movie that Disney had ever produced. Next, the sequel, High School Musical 2, released in 2007 came out, and then the feature film High School Musical 3: Senior Year released into theaters in October 2008.
The world saw young Gabriella Montez grow up and fall in love with Troy Bolton, the high school basketball star, played by Zac Efron, and share a rivalry with Sharpay Evans, a drama queen and high school diva, played by Ashley Tisdale. There is no doubt that the High School Musical franchise is what put Vanessa Hudgens into the spotlight.
However, it seems that these days, Hudgens still has tons of fans who only see her as Gabriella and not as the “serious actress” that she claims she wants to be. Hudgens would rather have nothing to do with her High School Musical days.
Hudgens told the LA Times,
“Teenagers come up to me and are obnoxious about the whole thing, like, ‘Oh my God, you’re that girl! You’re that girl from the Disney Channel.’ And I’m like, ‘I was that girl.’”
We always hope that young celebrities stay on the right path and don’t make choices that could be detrimental, while on their quest to show the world that they have grown up. We hope the same for Vanessa Hudgens.
