Vanessa Hudgens, who trained with Navy SEALs to get fit for the sci-fi thriller Sucker Punch, says she doesn't recognize herself now that she has gained weight and cut her trademark long hair for her new role in Gimme Shelter.
"It's unrecognizable," Hudgens, 22, told E! of her dramatic transformation into a pregnant teen living on the streets.
"Even when I'm like kind of done-up, I look in the mirror and I'm like, 'I don't know who that is.' "
'Exercise Makes Me Feel So Alive'
Vanessa, who recently showed off her fit bikini body as the new rep for Candie's clothing brand, says playing a non-glamorous role was challenging but rewarding.
"It was shocking, but at the same time so exciting," says Hudgens, who admits she misses her long hair "a lot!"
She adds: "It gives me the opportunity to be able to step out of what people see me as and allows them to get out of their heads and be able to just experience the film."
Vanessa, who recently overcame a junk-food addiction, typically works out daily, doing Pilates, cardio kickboxing and spinning.
"Exercise is amazing from the inside out," she gushed. "I feel so alive and have more energy."
