Singer and songwriter Vanessa Carlton, 29, revealed over the weekend that she was bisexual, a trend which appears to be rising among young women in the United States. Singer Christina Aguilera and True Blood star Anna Paquin have also “come out” as bisexual, despite committed relationships to men in their life. So, what is bisexuality, and how does it impact the sexual lives of women in the United States?
Vanessa Carlton on bisexuality
Vanessa Carlton, singer of 2002 smash hit A Thousand Miles, revealed at the Nashville Pride event on Saturday June 19, 2010:
“I've never said this before, but I am a proud bisexual woman.”
What is bisexuality?
Bisexuality can be defined as a sexual attraction or behavior, physical or emotional, to both males and females. Some people believe that bisexuality is a “temporary” state of a “confused” person who is exploring or has yet to discover their true sexual orientation. However, bisexual behavior has been also recorded in the animal kingdom. Throughout history, bisexuality has been evident amongst both male and female genders, although it is only recently that more people, particularly women, are becoming more open about their sexual preferences.
Bisexuality and sexually transmitted diseases (STDs)
Bisexual women have some of the same risks of sexually transmitted diseases as heterosexual women. Sexually transmitted diseases can be obtained by oral-genital sex, anal sex and vaginal sex through penetration or hands. The same “safe sex” practices should be employed between women as those of heterosexual women, in addition to women who have both male and female sexual partners at the same time.
Bisexuality and women
Sigmund Freud is said to have believed that everybody has the ability to be bisexual at some point in their life. Recent celebrity revelations appear to indicate that bisexuality amongst women is becoming more common and more accepted by society, although some women still prefer not to reveal their true sexuality for fear of reprisal by peers.

super gay!
Women are sleeping with each other at unprecedented rates. Usually in place of men and often whilst still dating men. Men support and promote this behaviour thinking that's its always to impress them entirely unaware of how often women are doing it privately. It's as if men think that women are only bisexual to please them. When nowadays it very seldomly has anything to do with men and is entirely a selfish desire.
These bisexual women and often straight ones tend to sleep more often with women then men but still marry men. It's as if they want the security of marriage with a man and babies whilst often being more attracted to women. In male circles bisexual women are still idealised and spoken of as being the ultimate. Yet this behaviour is resulting in men being left in the cold for sexual experiences.
