What do you get when some of the best women tennis players in the world gather in a beautiful facility each February for high quality tennis, big crowds, great food and a what is basically a community gathering?
You get the Dow Corning Tennis Classic in Midland, Mich., a 100K USTA Pro Circuit event, now in it's 25th year.
Many of the big names in women's tennis have played this event and there is a slew of young talent present in Midland again this year.
The first full day of main draw matches began on Wednesday with a major upset.
Tournament No. 2 seed Coco Vandeweghe may have been a heavy favorite in her match, but that did matter to young American Victoria Duval. Duval won a three-set match, going away over a much more experienced opponent.
Duval is regarded as on of the bright young stars in American tennis and this was a huge win over an opponent that on paper, should fare well on indoor courts.
Other American winners on Wednesday included former USC player Maria Sanchez, Alexa Glatch, and Sachia Vickery.
Glatch won a tight three-set match over fellow American Julia Cohen and Vickery took care of the top junior in the world, American Taylor Townsend.
The action continues on Thursday with second round matches and a feature match on Stadium Court at 7pm.
