Vanderboegh: "It is possible the fix is in" on Fast and Furious

As one of the two original reporters who first broke the Fast and Furious story in December of 2010, Mike Vanderboegh has been known to sniff out a scandal or two during his illustrious life as a former Communist turned militia man turned Constitutionalist and gun rights activist.

And now he says regarding the Fast and Furious scandal, "It is entirely possible that the fix is in."

This was Vanderboegh's reaction to the Issa committee hearings on the scandal yesterday in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Vanderboegh was struck by the fact that, despite harsh words from Republicans for Eric Holder, they seems to display signs of backing off, particularly on the part of committee Chair Darrell Issa, R-California.

In spite of the fact that the committee has hundreds of pages of documents and emails proving Holder lied to Congress, proving that the DOJ lied to Congress, not to mention the stonewalling and refusal of Holder to turn over subpoenaed documents, Issa apparently failed to put teeth to his words other than his threat to hold Holder in contempt unless he turns over the documents by the Feb. 9 deadline.

In an interview with TPMMuckraker, Vanderboegh accused Issa of going soft on 'Gunwalking,' the signature feature of the Fast and Furious scandal during which paid illegal straw purchasers bought U.S. guns and walked them across the border into Mexico, placing them directly in the hands of the Mexican drug cartels.

Vanderboegh told TPM's Ryan J. Reilly,

“You know what the Republicans just did? They sold out every mother’s son who put their life and career on the line to try to bring this truth out,” Vanderboegh told TPM. “Another display like this and people will forget the whole thing.”

So why did Republicans, at least as far as Vanderboegh is concerned, back off? He suggested it could be as simple as the FBI blackmailing the speaker of the House.

“I submit to you that it is entirely possible that the fix is in,” Vanderboegh told TPM. “It could be as simple as a picture of something like John Boehner with a sheep, you know. Because they’ve done that before. The FBI blackmails people routinely. They always have.”

Vanderboegh should know. He has painstakingly researched cases through the years that indicate a pattern of deception, corruption, bribery, and blackmail on the part of the FBI, beginning with the Ruby Ridge fiasco when a suspect's wife and teenage son were shot to death by agents. He also was among the first to uncover a gargantuan scandal at the FBI called 'PATCON' in which it was discovered that the FBI had failed to stop Timothy McVeigh from blowing up the federal building in Oklahoma City although they had been told by a paid informant that he was about to do so.

Regarding Issa, Vanderboegh stated,

“I don’t say that Darrell Issa is real happy with how this is going, I don’t think he is,” Vanderboegh said. “But I think Darrell Issa is a team player, he’s a loyal guy to the party, and I think that to the extent he allows the investigation to turn away from evidence because it’s inconvenient for somebody, history will probably reflect him pretty poorly.”

The threat of the investigation 'reflecting on Republicans poorly' was part of the strategy Holder used during yesterday's hearing, several times responding to questions by berating the questioner.

If Issa fails, therefore, to follow up on his threat to hold Holder in contempt unless he gets all of the documents he needs by Feb. 9, then the entire investigation collapses. It's over. And once again Republicans will have passed up a golden opportunity to bring integrity, honesty, and the rule of law back into a government that is raging out of control.
