We in Nashville are really proud that our hometown heroes, the Vanderbilt Commodores in Nashville now hold the title of 'World Series College Baseball Champions' after their recent run to the top in a hard-fought battle over their opponents in Omaha, Nebraska.

With this team going into the world series as a team, they came up against several top-ranked teams, and at the end, our Vanderbilt Commodores won in a 'best 2-out-of-3 games' to bring home the top ranking title to Nashville.

The school held open it's doors and the football field to the Vanderbilt fans to come watch the games with a 'fan-party', with one of the occasions delayed or moved due to the inclement weather, and another occasion held indoors due to the rain. This did not dampen the enthusiasm of the many Commodore fans, and the many postings we saw on our social media showed the true colors of those who are loyal to all things 'Black and Gold', with many signs posted on Facebook and Twitter for the support of our team.

With the coach, Tim Corbin, the team returned to a lot of fan-fare as, again, the school held open it's doors for the community and the town of Nashville to show it's support when they pulled back into town, bringing the trophy as the winners of the College World Series with them. This is the first national championship we've seen in our lifetime for our famous Vanderbilt Champion Commodore men's baseball team.

Both the Governor and a representative of the Mayor were there when the team returned to the school on June 26 to welcome our men home and much was made of the fact that this was not the everyday, common variety of sports, but a big one for the team and for Vanderbilt University Athletic Department.
