It was the first loss for the Sounders FC since May 11. A span that had the team go 4-0-1 in MLS games including a 2-2 tie with the Whitecaps on May 24th. The Sounders had two U.S Open Cup games during that time. The loss to the Whitecaps also means that Seattle is now five points back of Vancouver in the race for the Cascadia Cup.

Saturday's loss to Vancouver was surprising and disturbing for Sounders FC fans. Vancouver FC's Sebastian Fernandez received a pass from Pedro Morales in the 12th minute of the game and that was all the offense the Whitecaps would need. The disturbing signs for the Sounders FC was their inability to shut down the Vancouver midfield and find an offensive rhythm.
“I think the Whitecaps were hungry and it took us a little while to get in the game, Said Sounders Captain Brad Evans.

While some of the discombobulating can be attributed to the page long list of missing players, Obefami Martins (hamstring), Gonzalo Pineda, Osvaldo Alonso (yellow card accumulation) Clint Dempsey and De Andre Yedlin the team strength is supposed to be it’s depth.

The Sounders inability to gain any type of ball possession in the middle of the field could be a troubling sign.Wingers Lemar Neagle and Marco Pappa had decent looks at goal but the chances where few and far in between. The inability to control the ball in the middle of the field resulted in a non-existence Sounders FC attack. Forwards Chad Barrett and Kenny Cooper where left to fend for themselves when it came to creating chances to score. Without passes from the middle field, the two forwards where powerless to put any type of pressure on Vancouver FC Goal keeper David Ousted.
