Vancouver’s Spring Living Fair focuses on healthy, ethical lifestyles

The 4th Annual Spring Living Fair held today (April 2nd) at the Vancouver Roundhouse Community Centre highlighted ways to help live a healthier, more sustainable lifestyle.

In the stunning setting of the renovated historic Roundhouse building, an enthusiastic crowd of attendees were able to browse displays, sample tasty treats, chat with green entrepreneurs and listen to enlightening guest speakers. Visitors enjoyed a relaxed environment with a diversity of displays – everything from food to fashion, gardening to pet products, natural healing to bikes – and more!

The 2011 event hosted more than 30 of Vancouver’s  “green pioneers” right in the heart of Vancouver. Fair organizers emphasized that “these local entrepreneurs have devoted their lives to providing our community with sustainable, local and eco-friendly alternatives to everyday products and services.”

Did you know that the real estate business now offers “green specialists?” Fair exhibitor and realtor Brian Street was on hand as one of Vancouver’s experts on that increasing trend.

Event attendee Andrea says she stopped by to find out more about raw food diets and gluten-free products to help her with a health issue. Ann visited to learn more about alternative wind energy from Bullfrog Power  and to get informed about local savings from the Green Zebra Guide.

Doug, who bused in all the way from Ladner, dug right in and tried out some new foods. He left with his pack sack full of goodies from Organic Lives, Indigo Food and Hindas Finest Foods from the Fair – unique tasty treats he says he is not likely to have found in a mega-chain store.

It was a beautiful sunny day for a spring fair to celebrate ethical living with fashion, flavour, and folksy focus. The organizers, consisting of student and faculty volunteers from the British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT) – along with the sponsors – are to be congratulated for capturing the essence of a community fair.
