According to www.macstournament.ab.ca, the Vancouver NW Giants are the 2012-13 Mac's Midget Hockey Tournament champions.
On New Year's Day, at the Scotiabank Saddledome in Calgary, Jackson Cressey scored 5:15 into the second overtime after Brandon Del Grosso tied the game up at two with 13 seconds left in regulation time in the contest.
Del Grosso (a goal and an assist) and Jarid Lukosevicius (two assists) each had multi-point games for the Giants, who won their second championship in four years. Lukoevicius also missed on a penalty shot in the second period.
Anthony Conti, who scored the Giants goal on the power play to tie the game at one in the first period, was named the game's most valuable player.
Jesse Shynkaruk of the Saskatoon Contacts was named the tournament's most valuable player in the male division, while Karissa Kirkup of the Westman Wildcats was named the tournament's most valuable player in the female division.
