Vancouver food festival offers some sustainable features

The 2011 EAT! Vancouver festival now in its 2nd day (today June 11) is also highlighting some green options. Organizers boast: “we are green at heart and are making every effort to minimize the event’s impact on our environment.”

The popular food festival is using 100% green electricity through Bullfrog Power - who is injecting carbon-free, green power onto the British Columbia electricity grid to match the amount of electricity used by this event.  According to event organizers: “Bullfrog’s green power is sourced exclusively from wind power and low-impact hydro producers who meet or exceed the federal government's EcoLogoM standard for renewable energy."

Eat! Vancouver is being held at the new Vancouver Convention Centre - one of the "greenest" convention centres in the world. The facility has a living roof, seawater heating and cooling, on-site water treatment and fish habitat built into the foundation of the West Building.

The festival runs Friday June 10th through Sunday June 12th .  Attendees can enjoy organic, fresh, local raw food, wine tasting, celebrity chefs, dairy products, live cooking demonstrations, garden and green living advice. You’ll also find information from local restaurants and innovative ways to reduce your food footprint. Products and services that cater to a health-conscious consumer are being featured.

Doug Reynolds and his wife, visiting from Delta BC, says he particularly appreciates the opportunity "to taste before I buy!" Spices, chocolate and new cooking recipes are some of his favourite features.
