Cleveland flower lovers (especially those with a fondness for peonies) should not miss the opportunity to celebrate the blooms at the free 39th annual Peony Festival taking place in Van Wert, Ohio on Friday, June 6, Saturday, June 7 and Sunday, June 8. In addition to honoring peonies, the Festival offers a wide range of family-friendly events and activities that are sure to please all ages.
For those of you who may not be familiar with the flower, peonies are large, fragrant perennial flowers that bloom in late Spring and early Summer. They come in colors ranging from red and pink to white and yellow.
Van Wert Peony Festival Flower-related activities include garden tours at various locations on both Saturday and Sunday.
Other activities include ArtRageous on Main Street where visitors can watch artisan demonstrations and purchase their items and attend a Craft Show in downtown Van Wert. ArtRageous runs Friday and Saturday.
On Friday evening at Fountain Park there will be a concert by Papa Doo Run Run. Also at the Park that evening will be the Festival's Car Show.
Guests can also enjoy a Pet Show (Saturday from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m.) and a Fishing Derby (Saturday from 9 a.m. -11 a.m.). In addition, there will be Medieval Re-enactors performing from 11:30 a.m. -12:30 p.m. on Saturday at Fountain Park.
And don't miss the Grand Parade (featuring marching bands, floats, dance groups, motorcycle groups and vintage vehicles) being held on Saturday at 5 p.m.
Hours for the Van Wert Peony Festival are 10 a.m.- 9 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and noon- 5 p.m. on Sunday. Admission is free.
