Van Jones' charisma and commitment to creating a green economy and generating jobs for people most needing them are typical reasons to be targeted in Cointelpro-signature style.
Historically, professionally orchestrated discrediting has been a primary COINTELPRO (COinterINTELligence PROgram) 'dirty trick.'*
Discrediting has repeatedly disrupted progressive movements and damaged their leaders for purpose of maintaining the status quo.
The counterintelligence program has always targeted environmentalists, civil and human rights workers according to Senator Frank Church's 1976 U.S. Senate Select Committee on Intelligence Investigation Report.
COINTELPRO discredited countless civil and human rights leaders, including Paul Robeson over sixty years ago. The discrediting tactic prompted Robeson's song, Scandalize My Name.
COINTELPRO persecution in many higher profile cases included covertly working with media to turn the public, colleagues, friends and even family members against the target with lies according to the 1976 Church Committee Investigation Report.* Favorable press releases about targets have not been published while exagerations and lies about the target have been, all with overall objective of preventing reform and progress according to the 1976 Church Committee congressional records.
Robbins, author of Diet for a New America and The Power of Partnership and founder of EarthSave International and YES! urged Americans in his email that circulated the Nothern Hemisphere shortly before Jone's resignation, "Stand up for Jone's green jobs agenda, and for President Obama."
Jones has been a lifelong civil and human rights advocacy leader. He founded the nation's largest civil rights education, advocacy, non-government organization, Color of Change before combining this humanitarian work with environmentalism.
Speak Of Him As He Is
Jones with his civil and human rights advocacy plus environmentalism background, in the White House Council Environmental Quality as special advisor on green jobs, coupled with the national health reform debate, prompted negative politics against the "African-American surrogate for Obama.'
This "rising African American visionary," as Robbins refers to Jones, was worn down with repeated labels of "Communist" and "dangerous," typical experience for hundreds of innocent American "Targeted Individuals." Timing was perfect for skillfully disrupting Jone's work and tarnishing presidential attempts to reform health care.
Since days of J. Edgar Hoover when COINTELPRO was formalized, its well orchestrated lies and racism were applied in to wear down charismatic leaders such as Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. as the 1976 investigation revealed.
More recently, former Congressperson and U.S. Presidential Candidate, Cynthia McKinney has experienced COINTELPRO signature-style persecution involving media. In the case of McKinney, the media conducted a black-out of her humanitarian trip to Gaza during which she was kidnapped and detained.
The Cointelpro war on Americans officially halted in 1971 but the right-wing violent government program operates today under a different code name according to M. Wesley Swearingen. (See: M. Rush Holt (D.NJ) recently called for a new U.S. counterintelligence program investigation because of its rampant abuse of powers.
Racial injustice imagery in Robeson's music is depicted in the recording (below) of his evening performance of Ol' Man River and Suwannee River at Carnegie Hall sixty-one years ago.
As apropos today as when Robeson performed, basso profundo, K.B. Solomon performs Speak of Me As I Am, a one-man musical about Robeson's life haunted by right-wing government persecution. Solomon's performance in Los Angeles and other venues across the nation has been hailed to point of a movie offer.
Robbins wrote in his letter distributed today:
"Jones is a best-selling author whose work and role in the White House are about using capitalism to help people and the planet. He’s been recognized by the World Economic Forum as a social entrepreneur, and his life is dedicated to creating private sector jobs that make the world a better place and improve America's energy security."
"Glenn Beck, Fox News, Ann Coulter, Sean Hannity, and Bill O'Reilly claim that Jones is a dangerous radical extremist. In fact, he’s a kind, warm person who has built bridges across racial divides, class divides, and political divides."
"Mr. Beck loves to mention the fact that Van Jones was arrested twice. Again though, Beck never tells his audience that in neither case was Van Jones ever charged with any crime. Furthermore, Beck neglects to mention the fact that Van Jones actually won a lawsuit and monetary compensation based on the illegality of his arrest in one case."
"Those of us who know his courageous spirit, loving heart, and wisdom, now is the time to speak. We are urging you to post on blogs, send emails to lists, contact or submit stories for media outlets, to comment on internet news articles, and use any other mediums you have to tell the truth about Van Jones as you know him."
"In the next few days, expect a continued roar of negative publicity, out-of-context quotes, half-truths presented as 'fact', and the continued vilification of a man whose life and work have inspired millions with visions of a socially just, environmentally sustainable, and economically robust economy."

Van Jones is being crushed under the weight of his own words. He has no place in President Obama's administration. There are many caring environmentalists out there capable of being good Czars without spreading messages of hate and intolerance. So, the Government pulled off 911 and now they're trying to silence the one guy who spoke out about it. Shocking. Like something right out of a Hollywood movie. I wonder how they got him to say all those things on camera. Maybe that mind control stuff is further along than we thought.
To compare what the FBI and others tried to do to MLK to what is happening to Van Jones is a streach. You have to take a man at his word. I find it more disturbing that he is willing to not stand up for his beliefs in this controversy. I would have more respect for him if he said, "yeah, I stand by what I said." Dosn't mean that I would agree with his policies, I don't, just that someone willing to compromise his beliefs publicaly, blowing to the winds of public opinion, is not deserving of respect.
