Van Halen will perform in Philadelphia on March 5 at the Wells Fargo Center as part of their 2012 tour, it was announced tonight in New York at a private, invitation-only show for mostly press and friends.
Tickets go on sale Saturday, January 14 at 10am and can be purchased at ComcastTIX.com, LiveNation.com, Wells Fargo Center Box Office or by-phone at 800-298-4200.
The tour will reunite David Lee Roth with the other original members: brothers Eddie Van Halen and Alex Van Halen. Wolfgang Van Halen, Eddie’s son, will replace bassist Michael Anthony.
A new album with this line-up will be released by Interscope Records February 7th called “ A Different Kind of Truth.” It is the first time in 28 years that Van Halen has recorded an album with David Lee Roth as their singer. The first single from the album, "Tattoo", and its accompanying video will debut simultaneously on Tuesday, January 10th, with album pre-orders starting that day.
A second show in the area will be at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, NJ on March 24. Those tickets will go on sale at a date yet to be announced.
The tour will open on February 18th in Louisville, Kentucky and goes through the end of June. Kool and the Gang will appear on select dates. Complete dates and cities are available here.
The band made the announcement after performing a set for a small group of invited guests at Cafe Wha in Greenwich Village, New York.
The last time Van Halen played Philadelphia was during their 2007-08 tour with David Lee Roth – the first since he left the band in 1985. They played at the same venue (it was known as Wachovia Center then). The October 1, 2007 set list for their show here included all the hits.
During their heyday, with the original line-up that included Michael Anthony, Van Halen played many times at the Spectrum.
Fans can expect Van Halen to perform selections from A Different Kind Of Truth alongside songs from their arsenal of epic hits that include: "Running with the Devil," "Jamie's Cryin'," "You Really Got Me," "Ain't Talkin' 'Bout Love,” "Everybody Wants Some," "And The Cradle Will Rock,” "Beautiful Girls,” "Mean Street," "Somebody Get Me A Doctor,” "Jump," “Panama," "Hot For Teacher," "I'll Wait," and more from their classic albums Van Halen, Van Halen II, Women and Children First, Fair Warning, Diver Down and 1984.
