Vampsters rejoice! Brad Pitt's producing the new movie based on Vlad Dracula!

The age of the hot vampire may be at an end...

Yeah that headline's kind of misleading. I know the Twi-hards and the Vampsters, (that's a vamp/hipster mash-up) think that they'll be getting a new undead flick set firmly in the birth place of vampire lore....

Nah. Screw that.

Pitt's doing the bright thing and finally producing a film that someone should have made a decade ago before the Vamptards and Vampteens took over pop-culture with all of their wimpy, whiny, dewy-eyed, love-ravaged ilk...

He's finally bringing the true story - the very unsupernatural tale - of the real Vlad Tepes to movie houses. I can't tell you how long I've waited for this film. The real Vlad, the guy that lead armies against the greatest military might of his generation, the guy that died in combat squaring off against assassins hired to kill him, and yes, the guy that impaled human beings by the thousands, burned fields, poisoned wells - somebody needed to make a movie about him. Historically I don't know if there's a character as complex as Tepes. As feared or as revered. Now it's looking like we'll finally be seeing this movie happen.

The screenplay for Vlad was picked up by Pitt's production company from actor Charlie Hunnam. Hunnam's currently kicking biker ass in the hit FX series Sons of Anarchy. Anthony Mandler's interested in directing the new film.

In other Vampire news: Vampires ate still sucking at the box-office. And by "sucking" I mean all of the cash out of your teenage daughter's baby-sitting bank. New Moon's the 6th highest grossing movie in 2009.
