It was almost a decade ago that the fictional town of Port Charles, New York was filled with witches, angels like Rafe Kovich (Brian Gaskill), werewolves, and vampires like supercouple Caleb Morley (Michael Easton) and Olivia "Livvie" Locke (Kelly Monaco), Joshua Temple (Ian Buchanan), and Dr. Ian Thornhart (Thorsten Kaye).
This made Port Charles (PC, 1997-2003) into the new Dark Shadows for the early 2000s with 13-week story arcs about the supernatural battle between good and evil.
On January 14, the battle may resume on parent show General Hospital when Lucy Coe (Lynn Herring) cross paths with brooding cop John McBain (Easton) and sultry private investigator Sam McCall-Morgan (Monaco), the spitting image of her immortal enemies, so could John and Sam be Caleb and Livvie reincarnate? After all, it literally fell like a stake through the heart (which is what Lucy tried to do to John) when they first met, but that's not all. In her jail cell, Lucy will meet mobster turned romantic hero Duke Lavery (Buchanan), who looks exactly like Joshua.
"The story does get pretty over-the-top yet it's still rooted in a certain reality" GH head writer Ron Carlivati exclusively told TV Guide. "Lucy may be off-kilter but she's certainly not in Heather Webber territory. Her belief in vampires will be very convincing."
Though GH fans have known Lucy as a vixen and sometime villainess, she became a heroine on PC as a vampire slayer who fell in love with Ian (Kaye), a vampire with a soul.
"That show was so ahead of its time and this is a nice nod to the fans who supported all those wild chances we took" Herring stated in the interview. "I love that we're still taking chances and not sidestepping the past. If Lucy met up with John and didn't recognize him, we'd be flooded with complaints!"
Though PC ended on a cliff-hanger in 2003 (the double wedding of Alison & Rafe and Caleb & Livvie, and Alison became pregnant with Caleb's baby!), it still would've been daytime television's answer to The Twilight Saga, True Blood, and The Vampire Diaries.
