Fresh off of a wildly successful 2013, New York City indie rockers Vampire Weekend are kicking off the new year with new material. Yesterday Jan. 7, the band premiered their ambitious cover of Andrea Bocelli's revered "Time to Say Goodbye (Con te Partirò)" via Rolling Stone. Weird right?
The song comes as part of a Starbucks compilation of love songs entitled, "Sweetheart 2014." The cover itself makes heavy use of lead singer Ezra Koenig's boyish-like vocal charm and a very intriguing reggae twist on the beat. It's a very interesting take to say the least. Did Vampire Weekend ultimately miss the mark or are we applauding them for their ambition?
"Sweetheart 2014" is out via The Hear Music label on Feb. 4. The compilation features Beck, Jim James, Phosphorescent, Fiona Apple, Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings and more. Check out Vampire Weekend's take on "Time to Say Goodbye (Con te Partirò)" here via Rolling Stone and post your thoughts below!
