Fans of Paul Wesley had some news to start off their weekend. The Wrap was the first to report on Friday that the actor, best known for the role of Stefan Salvatore in The Vampire Diaries, had joined the cast of The Baytown Disco. The Vampire Diaries airs on Channel 6 in Scottsdale, and the film is set to hit Scottsdale theaters in 2012.
Wesley will play the character of Anthony Reese, a federal agent that comes to town to investigate the main family in the film, the Oodies. The family of three brothers are being investigated after they help a woman get her son back from its abusive father.
The Baytown Disco also stars Billy Bob Thornton and Eva Longoria. LLeju Productions is the film company behind the film project, and Barry Battles is directing. Battles and Griffin Hood wrote the script for the film. Production began in Louisiana earlier this month, and Paul Wesley arrived on set on earlier this week, according to his Twitter.
During his career, Wesley has appeared on several television series including 24, The O.C., Army Wives, Wolf Lake, and Everwood. He was also star of the ABC Family television mini-series, Fallen. On the film side of things, his most recent appearance was in Beneath the Blue, which was released in November 2010 in a limited fashion.
Fans of Paul Wesley had been buzzing about his performance in The Vampire Diaries season finale that aired on Thursday night, but the buzz started to include the news of his role on Friday.
