Colin Ferguson has been cast as Tripp, the leader of a community militia. Tripp will also give Sheriff Forbes a hard time because of his willingness to do whatever it takes to protect the town. Chris Wood from "The Carrie Diaries" has also joined the "TVD" family and will play Kai, a newcomer who is charming, but unstable. Expect to see him introduced in the third episode of the upcoming season, according to TV Guide.

International Business Times reported that Emily Chang will play Ivy, who is the girl next door with a wild side. The Wrap reported that Marco James will play Liam. His character comes from a family of doctors and he is described as a Whitmore College med student who is good-natured, but cocky. He will be introduced in the season 6 premiere. Jayson Warner Smith will appear on "The Vampire Diaries" season 6 in at least two episodes. He will play the owner of a hot rod shop, according to TV Line. Entertainment Weekly wrote that viewers will meet another doctor, to be played by Jodi Lyn O'Keefe.

New love interest

Bustle reported that a new female character will be added to the cast and she will be a new love interest for someone. While she wouldn't spill the details, fans are speculating on which character will find romance with this new character. The website suggested that Jeremy, Matt and Tyler could be possible candidates. Out of the three, Bustle believes that Matt and Tyler have a much better chance of finding a new love than Jeremy.

Elena's grief

TV Line chatted with "The Vampire Diaries" executive producer Julie Plec, who gave a few details on what to expect in season 6. One character she spoke about what Elena. Plec was asked about the rumor that Elena would miss Damon so much that she might consider dying to be with him. So will Elena die on "The Vampire Diaries" to be with Damon? Plec responded,

"I’ll just say that I think it’d be super sad for a young woman in her vibrant, early years to take her life and die on the sword for the love of a man. As much as I am a romantic and believe in true love, I also believe in therapy and trying to pull yourself together and getting on with your life."

As for if Elena will be able to move on, Plec said that she is trying, although she isn't having much success. It seems that viewers will get a few surprises from Elena Gilbert. She explained,

"She’s got some complicated coping mechanisms that are making her be things and do things and act in ways that we wouldn’t normally expect from her."

Damon and Bonnie

As for Damon and Bonnie, where they disappeared to will be part of the mystery when the show returns. Plec said that they won't be going through torture, but it won't be fun either. The executive producer did reveal that Damon and Bonnie will know that they are somewhere different, but that they aren't quite dead. They will be asking the same questions as viewers, such as where exactly are they, what is happening and how do they get back home.

As for how long fans will have to wait to get answers, that really depends on the particular question. Where Bonnie and Damon went will be revealed quickly, but what happened will be a "season-long mythology."
