"The Vampire Diaries" premiered it's second season on Thursday, and with Katherine in the mix, it made for one exciting hour of television.
Elena comes home to find Uncle John bleeding on the floor. She calls 911 before realizing someone is in her house. Elena runs upstairs to check on brother Jeremy, and finds him passed out due to overdosing on pills and drinking the late Anna's vampire blood. Elena calls Stefan, who warns Jeremy that the blood is almost out of his system, and if tried to kill himself again, he would likely die.
Damon is confused when Elena doesn't acknowledge their kiss, and quickly realizes that Katherine is back in town. Elena tells Damon she would never kiss him. Stefan and Damon exchanged heated words over Damon's feelings for Elena.
Damon and Stefan come face to face with Katherine, who tells each of them her reason for returning to Mystic Falls, her love for Stefan. Damon, hurt that both Katherine and Elena chose Stefan over him, finds himself at Elena's house after a night of drinking.
Damon kisses Elena, who tells him that while she cares about him, she'll always love Stefan. After hearing both the women he loves profess they love for his brother, Damon loses control and snaps Jeremy's neck. However, Jeremy is wearing his Uncle John's ring, and quickly returns to life. As he wakes up he says, "Damon killed me." Elena tells Stefan that she now "hates" Damon. John, packs his bags and leaves town.
Katherine, mad that Stefan and Damon did not welcome her back, goes to the hospital to visit Caroline. Caroline's hospital stay is the result of a car accident, which left her seriously hurt. However, her former boyfriend, Damon, fed her his blood to hurry along her recovery. When Katherine tries to send a message by killing Caroline at the hospital, it's assumed that Caroline will awake as a vampire, due to Damon's blood in her system.
