'Vampire Diaries': Paul Wesley wants characters to be killed off permanently

Where would "The Vampire Diaries" be if the favorite characters were killed off permanently? The show would go on because a lot of things on television do that. After certain characters are killed off, they introduce new ones. But on "TVD," they have been bringing people back. Paul Wesley, who plays Stefan on "The Vampire Diaries" says that the show needs to start killing people off for good according to a May 23 report by WetPaint.

Lately, "The Vampire Diaries" has been bringing back a lot of people that are supposed to be dead. At first it was shocking, but now fans almost expect characters to come back if they die. However, executive producer Julie Plec said that the Other Side is gone. With it gone, could this mean that future deaths will be permanent?

Paul Wesley had something to say about the subject. Last week he told Buzzfeed that the characters need to start dying for real on the vampire series. WetPaint wondered if this might mean Damon and Bonnie could be gone for good if they get their wish. Wesley said,

“I want them to start killing people. It kind of drives me insane that they don’t. You can’t keep killing characters and bringing them back while using death as a catalyst for us caring about the episode. Death has to the be ultimate fear on our show, so when Stefan is trying to rescue Elena, we’re genuinely terrified she might die. Otherwise, what’s the point?”

Even though nobody wants to see Stefan, Damon, Elena, Bonnie or any of the other characters die permanently, Wesley does have a point. Nina shared her opinion on the matter and said that in the beginning the shock value of it made the show stand out. But as more and more people are brought back, that shock value wears off.

In the season 5 finale of "The Vampire Diaries," Damon and Bonnie seemed to disappear along with the Other Side. This led to speculation that they were gone for good. However, both Ian Somerhalder and Kat Graham are contracted through the sixth season. Also, Plec said that they will be seen again, but that doesn't mean they will be actually brought back. On the vampire series there are a lot of supernatural events, so they could appear in another form.

What do you think is going to happen in "The Vampire Diaries" season 6? Do you agree that the show needs to start killing people off for good? With the Other Side gone, what exactly does this mean for Damon and Bonnie?
