"Vampire Academy" to start class a week early

The Weinstein Company(TWC) today announced a new release date for “Vampire Academy”, the big-screen adaptation of Richelle Mead’s novel. The film, which is directed by Mark Waters(“Mean Girls”), will forego Valentine’s Day in favor of hitting theaters a week early, on February 7. The adapted screenplay was written by Waters’ older brother Daniel(“Heathers”).

In a move similar to Warner Bros.’ recent bundling of announcements, TWC updated two other release dates as well. The Grace Kelly biopic “Grace of Monaco” will no longer hit theaters on March 14. Nicole Kidman stars in the film, which doesn’t yet have a new release date.

The real-life story of Paul Potts comes to life on the big screen in “One Chance”, the new film by David Frankel(“The Devil Wears Prada”, “The Big Year”). Potts was an amateur opera singer who ended up winning the first season of the television show Britain’s Got Talent. The biographical drama, which screened at the 49th Chicago International Film Festival last October, will now hit theaters on March 14, making way for “Vampire Academy” to take its original release slot of February 7.

“Vampire Academy” is not yet rated by the MPAA, but one can bet it will shoot for a PG-13 given its audience: the Vampire Academy books are aimed at young adults.
