“The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1,” one of last year's biggest movie releases and the predecessor to what is sure to be one of this year's biggest movie releases, will be available Saturday, Feb. 11 on Blu-ray and DVD and retail stores throughout the Valley are preparing to celebrate the special feature-laden discs.
In “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1,” a chain of events set off by Edward (Robert Pattinson) and Bella's (Kristen Stewart) marriage, honeymoon and birth of a child yields a shocking development for Jacob (Taylor Lautner). It is not only the best installment of the film franchise but also the first one that will win over moviegoers who, like myself, have been flabbergasted by the phenomenon in the past.
However, such newbies need not attend any of the parties planned at Valley retailers, such as Target and Wal-Mart, because said events will likely be packed with Twi-hards clambering over the opportunity to be among the first to own a copy of the film on Blu-ray and DVD. After all, they have good reason as the discs are jam-packed with extras.
In fact, Blu-ray and DVD includes two discs – one with the movie itself and one with special features. The highlight of said special features is a 6-part making-of documentary that gives fans not only a behind-the-scenes look at the filming of “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1” but also includes never-before-seen footage of Bella's wedding, honeymoon, pregnancy and painful birthing process.
However, the most engaging extra is Edward and Bella's personal 8-minute wedding video which essentially breaks down the fourth wall and draws the viewer into the movie as though the events were more fact than fiction. Of course you also get the customary audio commentary from director Bill Condon along with a 7-minute featurette titled “Jacob's Destiny” that aims to appease members of Team Jacob who were scarred by Bella's ultimate decision to join Team Edward.
If the prospect of owning all of that as well as a pair of scene-skipping tools is enough to convince you to throw caution to the wind and brave the crowds, then Target and Wal-Mart stores throughout the Valley have you covered, extending their hours and hosting release-parties at 11 p.m. Friday, Feb. 10. Wal-Mart's attendees will partake in giveaways, trivia and treats while Target's attendees will watch a scene from “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2.”
“The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1” (PG-13 – 117 minutes) will be available Saturday, Feb. 11 on Blu-ray and DVD at retail stores and rental outlets throughout the Valley.
