If holiday shopping is still on your 'to-do' list, there are no dearth of places to do so in the Vallejo area. However if you want to align your spending with the causes you care about...and rescuing pets is one of them - You may want to look no further than the Wags & Whiskers Thrift Shop.
Less than a year old, this shop is already creating a lot of buzz. Most lately due to its new focus on fine furniture and home accessories. The shop has added an 'annex' next to the main store where shoppers can find a variety of furniture. When we visited the store earlier this month (see our slide show) we saw a hutch, armoire, dresser, couch, lamp stands and picture frames. As timing and luck are the keystones of every thrift shop, expect this inventory to vary daily.
Inside the main store you will find lots of stuffed toys, bric a brac, clothing, shoes, housewares and plenty of holiday decorations. There's also a separate alcove that is dedicated to a kid's universe, with toys, books and games filling the space from floor to ceiling.
Owner Lynnie Carvalho sat down with us for a few minutes to talk about the driver for the shop. She says that Wags & Whiskers supports her passion to give dogs a better chance for a quality life by providing a multi-strategy rescue operation that not only finds dogs in peril, but also matches them with suitable foster and adoption-ready homes. Wolfe also hopes to build a program that can offer low-cost shots and spay/neuter services.
All of Wags and Whiskers inventory is marked down 50% during the holidays and there is ample street parking nearby.
