This summer, Valiant Comics launches the highly anticipated “Armor Hunters” 18-part crossover event that will have a huge impact on the characters of the Valiant Universe. In an announcement February 27, 2014, Valiant announced plans to kick off the event with the return of chromium variant covers.
The chromium cover was an innovation of the original Valiant Comics in 1993 with the Joe Quesada drawn “X-O Manowar” #0. The look gives off a sheen that gives the appearance of real armor on the cover. To commemorate the biggest event to date of the new Valiant, the publisher is bringing back this classic incentive cover. There will be five covers in all released in June and July and will feature artwork by Jorge Molina, Mico Suayan, Clayton Crain, Philip Tan, and Lewis LaRosa.
Fans wanting the exclusive covers need to contact their local comic book retailers as soon as possible as these covers will be printed in limited supply and have a long lead time for ordering. The books to request are: “Armor Hunters” #1, “Unity” #8, and “X-O Manowar” #26 in June; and “Armor Hunters: Bloodshot” #1 and “Armor Hunters: Harbinger” #1. Standard editions of the comics will be widely available as well.
About the use of the exclusive cover Valiant CEO and Chief Creative Officer Dinesh Shamdasani had this to say:
"This is bigger and bolder than anything we've done before. With “Armor Hunters,” Robert Venditti and Doug Braithwaite are laying down what could quite possibly be the most ambitious, most high stakes, most consequence-filled story in Valiant's history. We're going to be equally bold with our marketing and sales, and the first of those initiatives is Chromium. It's a story-centric enhancement that reaches right back to Valiant's roots and we're proud to be able to offer these five “Armor Hunters” Chromium Editions as on-the-shelf items for excited fans across the world."
“Armor Hunters” begins in the Valiant Comics' Free Comic Book Day comic and then leads directly into the 18-part crossover. Built on the on the events taking place in “X-O Manowar” and “Unity,” the sotry of “Armor Hunters” will have a dramatic effect on the Earth as we know it. From Valiant’s original announcement of the event:
“When Aric of Dacia returned to Earth with the stolen X-O Manowar armor of an alien race, he thought he finally found a weapon to guard the peace and kingdom he’d struggled so long to secure. But now, a relentless and surgical strike team from the farthest reaches of space – sworn to exterminate the armor and all like it – have found their final target. The ARMOR HUNTERS are coming. They will hunt. They will trap. They will kill. And they will rid the universe of the X-O Manowar’s incalculable destructive power…even if it means taking the Earth with it.”
