Actress Valerie Harper has revealed that she has been diagnosed with leptomeningeal carcinomatosis, a terminal form of brain cancer. MSN reported on Wednesday, March 6 that the 73-year-old star, who is best known for her television roles as Rhoda Morgenstern, first received the tragic news in January, with the doctors telling the actress she only has three months to live.
Leptomeningeal carcinomatosis, is a condition that occurs when cancer cells spread into the fluid-filled membrane surrounding the brain.Valerie Harper spoke with People magazine saying,
"I don't think of dying. I think of being here now."
This is Valerie Harper's second battle with cancer in 2009 Harper battled lung cancer. Harpers' close pal and former TV co-star Mary Tyler Moore was reported by People magazine to be standing strongly by Valerie Harper's side bringing comfort and support to Harper as she faces terminal brain cancer.
"I'm absolutely devastated by this news," says Moore, 76, who herself underwent surgery in 2011 for a benign tumor in the protective membrane around the brain – the same spot where Valerie Harper's malignant cancer cells are located.
