Valerie Harper battles brain cancer; prepares for goodbyes (Video)

Television icon Valerie Harper, 73, has just revealed her sad diagnoses according to People magazine on March 6. The “Mary Tyler Moore Show” and “Rhoda” star is suffering from terminal brain cancer, news she received back in January. Moore told People in an exclusive interview that “after a battery of tests” it was revealed that she suffers from “leptomeningeal carcinomatosis” a cancer which “comes on quickly and progresses quickly.”

The brain cancer is rare and it occurs when the cancer cells start to spread into the parts of the membrane that are filled with fluid. According to her doctors, she has at least three months to live even though the star is opting for chemotherapy. With that news, Harper has started to say her goodbyes; not only to friends and family, but to her fans worldwide.

This is not the first time Harper has battled cancer. In 2009 she battled lung cancer as a “lifelong non-smoker” and went into remission.

In pure Valerie fashion; full of courage and humor, she tells People, “I don’t think of dying, I think of being here now. I’m well past my expiration date already”
