Being a single person with the most infamous romantic holiday approaching can leave one feeling desperate, bitter and well, lonely. If you're a single lady or lad this Valentines Day, why not give online dating a try? With an infinite number of sites to choose from, many of which are absolutely free to use, your options are many just like the possibilities. Before you jump onto the world of online dating there are a few tricks you should stuff your sleeves with. After only a few easy steps involving being completely honest (but not TMI honest) with your profile and what you're looking for you can be on your way to experiencing something new and wonderful.
Online dating doesn't have to be scary and it definitely doesn't mean there is anything wrong with you or whoever you may meet while browsing. That being said, the number one rule to remember is that you should always be very careful when meeting someone new regardless of the outlet. Don't pass out your phone number and definitely don't pass out your address before you are completely sure of who you are talking to and if they are trustworthy. You should also never pass out any personal information such as bank account numbers or your social security number (that should be a BIG red flag if they are asking!).
Now to the fun stuff. When you start to set up your profile make sure you have plenty of time to fill it out genuinely and truthfully. Just like in the real world of dating, there is no place for fabrication of traits. If you end up really liking someone you want it to be for the right reasons, not lies. This goes either way. Don't get yourself into hot water by lying about little things.. or big things for that matter. For example: if you are a plus sized woman or big and tall man don't feel the need to lie about your body or make it sound unflattering. If you are curvaceous or just a little more to love embrace what makes you special and someone else will love you just as you are. There is someone for every type and a type for every someone.
Next, don't sound desperate. If it's been awhile since your last date and you're starting to feel that panic creep up your spine, take a deep breath. Think about how you would sound looking in at your profile from a different perspective or even ask a friend to help you. If you were looking at your own page would you be interested or put off by what you read? Also, when selecting a photo pick one that represents who you are. It's easy to get the wrong idea from a first photo impression, so select wisely and maybe photo shop that beer out of your hand. At any rate, go into this adventure with an open mind and open heart. There is someone just like you going through the same motions looking for love and happiness. All you have to do is be yourself.
